A testcross is a method in biology to determine the organism's genome type. This method was established by the father of genetics, Gregor Mendel. The genome type is tested between a known offspring genome with the unknown parent genome type. If the offspring is recessive, then the parent is heterozygous. Similarly, if the offspring is dominant, then the parent is homozygous.

1. Explain how a doctor might use a pedigree to understand whether a person's disease has a genetic link.
Whitepunk [10]

Answer no 1:

A pedigree can be described as a chart or a diagram which illustrates the patterns of inheritance among generations of a family. Family history is very important to know the genetic history of a disease and how it runs in a family. A pedigree will let know that what are the probabilities of a disease to occur in the offsprings based on the genetic history.

Answer no 2:

A punnet square can be described as a diagram which predicts the result of a cross. A genetic cross will let scientists know about the genotype and phenotype of the offsprings that will be produced. It will let us know about carriers as well probability of a disease to occur in offsprings.

What effects does burning fossil fuels have on the atmosphere? Select the two correct answers.
guapka [62]

Answer:

The burning of fossil fuels produces gases like sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide which trap the sun's heat radiations and increase the overall temperature of the Earth. So the answers are A & B.

Explanation:

Global warming is caused by burning fossil fuels. The carbon dioxide produced as a result captures the heat in the surrounding atmosphere and causes a rise in temperature. Recently, it has been observed that the glaciers are melting and each year the net temperature of the core of the Earth is increasing.

The other gas produced is sulphur dioxide which is responsible for the acid rain. The sulphur dioxide combines with water to form sulphuric acid which causes damage to buildings and people. E.g Taj Mahal, in India is getting corroded by acid rain.

The diagram of plant cell and animal cell are described below with complete labelling.

Plant cell is the structural unit of all plants. It is a eukaryotic cell. It differs from all other cells in that it has components like cell wall and chloroplast that are characteristic to plant cells only. Also, in plant cells, majority of the space is occupied by vacuoles which does not happen in any other cell.

Animal cells are also eukaryotic cell. The structures that are only characteristic to animal cells are centrosome and lysosome. Centrosome help in cell motility and adhesion. Lysosome contains various digestive enzymes and acts as digestive system for the cell.
