Answer:

The Ottoman empire was one of the more successful empires in its time until its decline in the 19th century. It was ruled by Sultans who used various methods to legitimize and consolidate their power such as;

  • Centralising power in the hands of the Sultan's family such that for 7 centuries, the Ottoman empire was ruled by one family.
  • Spreading doctrine through the education system which was run by the state.
  • The use and maintenance of a strong slave army that were well equipped.
  • Controlling the Judiciary
  • Encouraging conversion to Islam which united the empire.
  • Discouraging discontent and rebellious thoughts by ruthless actions against rebellious or disobedient local leaders.
  • Assimilating ideas from other cultures to bolster their own and thus make it better.

Select the correct answer.
ZanzabumX [31]

Answer:

C. Double Jeopardy Clause.

Explanation:

The Fifth Amendment of the United States Constitution provides a number of rights that a person has dealing with both civil as well as criminal proceedings. This Amendment included the "Self-Incriminatory Clause, Double Jeopardy Clause, and the Due Process Clause" among others.

In the case of Matthew, the Double Jeopardy Clause bars the prosecution from carrying out another trial on Matthew's case for the second time. This clause states that <em>"No person shall . . . be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb . . . . "</em> This means that a person cannot be tried more than once for the same crime.

Thus, the correct answer is option C.
