federal free college proposal found that families from the top half of the income distribution would receive 24% more in dollar value from eliminating tuition than students from the lower half of the income distribution.

Free college tuition programs have proved effective in helping mitigate the system's current inequities by increasing college enrollment, lowering dependence on student loan debt and improving completion rates, especially among students of color and lower-income students who are often the first in their family to go to college.

What is the history behind Pigeon Point Lighthouse
neonofarm [45]

Answer:

The lighthouse was built in 1871 after a series of shipwrecks stirred public outcry.

Pigeon Point’s first victim was the ship “Carrier Pigeon.” In 1853, carrying 1,300 tons of cargo, the ship departed on her maiden voyage from Boston to San Francisco. A painting of a carrier pigeon was painted on her bowsprit as a sign of good luck. But luck was not with the ship in June of that year. After traveling 15,000 miles, it was thrown off course by heavy fog and tumultuous waves and crashed into the coast. Settlers from nearby Pescadero saw the foundering ship and flocked to the water. The entire crew was rescued and the ship bobbed in the water for a few days before sinking. To commemorate the young vessel, the ship’s captain named the area Pigeon Point.

In the 1860’s, the ships “Coya” and “Hellespont” shared the same fate as the Carrier Pigeon. They were sturdy ships but mother nature still got the best of them and the crews of these ships mostly drowned. With 37 dead and only a handful of survivors, the public had had enough. They banded together and petitioned the U.S. Lighthouse Service Board to construct a lighthouse equipped with a fog horn to prevent further disasters. While ships continued to sink along the coast of Pigeon Point until 1953, there has not been a wreck since then likely due to better navigation aides.

laila [671]

Incomplete question. The complete question reads;

In the context of the text, what does it mean to be brave? How did Díaz finally confront his fears, and what was the result? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and  other literature, art, or history in your answer.

<u>Explanation:</u>

From the text, to show how fear drives action an excerpt from the novel <em>Dune </em>was mentioned by the narrator, he said "<em> </em><em>‘‘Fear is the mind-killer,’’ </em><em>and let me tell you, my man knows of what he speaks. When the brothers appeared, I couldn’t think for nothing. </em><em>I would drop whatever I was doing  and get away, and it was only later, after I calmed down, that I would realize what I had done." </em>In other words, it pursues one into running from the object or subject of fear. Motivation to be brave often comes from the fact that it is the only way out attaining freedom from fear.

Díaz said he finally confronted his fears when he no longer fled from his bullies, in fact, he said,

<em>"I forced myself to stop. </em><em>I forced myself to turn toward them, </em><em>and it felt as if the whole world was turning with me. I couldn’t make myself walk toward them, I could barely even look at them, </em><em>so I settled for standing still</em><em>. As the brothers approached, the ground started tilting out from under me. One of them scowled. A</em><em>nd then, without a word, they walked past</em><em>"</em>
