“Works of art often tell stories. Artists can present narrative in many ways—by using a series of images representing moments in a story’’

Explanation:

As an art, literature is the organization of words to give pleasure; through them it elevates and transforms experience; through them it functions in society as a continuing symbolic criticism of values. Literature is a form of human expression.

Traditional categories within the arts include literature (including poetry, drama, story, and so on), the visual arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.), the graphic arts (painting, drawing, design, and other forms expressed on flat surfaces), the plastic arts (sculpture, modeling), the decorative arts (enamelwork,

Works of art often tell stories. Artists can present narrative in many ways—by using a series of images representing moments in a story, or by selecting a central moment to stand for the whole story. ... Sometimes, however, artists invent their own stories, leaving the viewer to imagine the narrative.

hope it helps.

Write a minimum 150 word response in which you explain how Hughes uses poetic devices such as alliteration,
pantera1 [17]

Answer:

See below

Explanation:

Hughes uses many poetic devices in his poem "Theme for English B." These include alliteration, assonance, consonance, and enjambment. Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in quick succession to create rhythm. An example of this device can been seen in the quote, "I feel and see and hear, Harlem, I hear you." The repetition of the "h" sounds creates a rhythm and also lets the reader know that this concept is an important one. This reveals the theme that Hughes is trying to get across: that the assignment is anything but simple for Hughes because he doesn't really have a story, or at least not one that will impress the professor. Assonance and consonance are also important in Hughes poem. These are created by the repetitions of vowel sounds (assonance) and consonant sounds (consonance). These can be used to create mood in the poem. An example of each in "Theme for English B" are the quotes, "I like a pipe for a Christmas present," and "I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salem." In the first quote, the sound of "i" is repeated. The second quote uses a repeated consonant "r" sound to make the voice of the speaker sound stressed. The final technique the Hughes uses in his poem is enjambment. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without pause of punctuation. An example of this is the quote, "You are white/ yet a part of me I guess you learn from me / although you're older and white / and somewhat more free." Hughes uses this to make it seem like the world is weighing down upon him without relenting. In conclusion, Hughes uses many literary devices, including alliteration, assonance, consonance, and enjambment to show the reader the racism of his home town, Harlem. He feels like the professor has given him the assignment to write about himself before the professor wants him to prove himself capable and show who he is, all because he is black. Hughes uses the poem as a platform to discuss racism and prejudice and the need to overcome it.

How does DuBois use structure to develop the message of his
exis [7]

After reading DuBois's speech "Address to the Niagara Movement," we can choose the following two options concerning the structure used to develop the message:

2. DuBois describes the effects of the American government's failure to uphold Blacks' political rights.

4. He includes a numbered list of demands necessary to ensure equal opportunities for Black Americans.

Analyzing DuBois's speech:

 • DuBois does briefly use time order to talk about events that had begun the previous year. However, they are not events contributing to suffrage (the right to vote), but hindering it instead. The first option is, thus, incorrect.
 • DuBois describes the effects of the government's failure. African Americans do not have their interests represented by the politicians in charge. They are still segregated in public spaces, and their right to education is simply ignored. Option 2 seems to be correct.
 • DuBois does not compare the quality of life of Black Americans to Blacks living in other nations. Option 3 is incorrect.
 • DuBois presents a list of 5 demands: the right to vote; the end of discrimination in public accommodations; the right of freemen to interact with whomever they wish; fair law enforcement; and the right to education. Option 4 seems to be correct.

With the information above in mind, we choose the second and the fourth options as the best answers for this question.
