1. If this is in the case of a child kids need to be kids give them a break.
2. If this is in the case of a older child (high school age) they already have loads of work so extending that would cause a lot of stress.
3. Lastly, you know no one is going to vote for this change.
I think you should use a tone that sounds very interested and very keen to know. Also, it should sound very 'socialised' and feisty voice.
