But depending on what it is you're studying, sometimes it's better to gather evidence in the field, which means locations outside of the lab where you collect data. For example, if you're interested in animal behavior, you might not get the same results in a zoo as you would in the Amazon rainforest. The upside is that your data might be more realistic, but the downside is that in real life there are usually far more variables than you can ever take into account. When working in the field, you have to accept there may be factors outside of your control, or even outside of the scope of your knowledge. This doesn't make doing science impossible, but it does make it more challenging.
