Difference between conditioned and unconditioned rules linguistics
GenaCL600 [577]
This is not my area of expertise but as far as I understand we refer to a conditioned sound change if a phoneme when in a certain environment becomes another phoneme - there is a certain condition that propells the change. On the other hand we refer to an unconditioned sound change if all phonemes of, for example, two different kinds are merged into one phoneme - there is no condition as it happens in all instances, and ultimately there is a reduction in the number of phonemes as one is substituted for another.

In keeping with traditional villanelle structure, the last line of this poem should be:
Kay [80]

Answer:

A. who scorned the tick of the falling weather.

Explanation:

A traditional villanelle is a poetic form that has five tercets and a quatrain that acts as the closing stanza. The tercets are a three-line stanza while a quatrain is a four-line stanza. Moreover, it follows a pattern where the first and last line of the first tercet acts as the third line in the following tercets, alternating between the two.

Simply put, the first line of the first stanza will become the third line in the second and fourth stanza. Similarly, the third line of the first stanza will become the third line of the third and fifth stanzas. and these two lines will become the closing lines of the quatrain.

So, in keeping with the traditional villanelle structure, the last line of the poem "Lament" by Sylvia Plath will be <u><em>"who scorned the tick of the falling weather."</em></u>

I need a 1 page essay about the Holocaust
Viefleur [7K]

Answer:

The Holocaust was a period in history at the time of World War Two (1939-1945), when millions of Jews were murdered because of who they were.

The killings were organised by Germany's Nazi party, led by Adolf Hitler.

Jews were the main target of the Nazis, and the greatest number of victims were Jewish. Nearly seven out of every 10 Jews in Europe were murdered because of their identity.

The Nazis also killed other groups of people, including Roma ('gypsies') and disabled people. They also arrested and took away the rights of other groups, like gay people and political opponents. Many of them died as a result of their treatment.

The Holocaust was an example of genocide. Genocide is deliberately killing a large group of people, usually because they are a certain nationality, race or religion.
