Answer:

It is important to understand that the presidential elections in the United States had a great deal of influence over whether or not Texas would join the union. Several members of the senate were against annexation and actually denied annexation in the Treaty to Annex Texas vote of 1844. Because President John Tyler was for annexation, he asked Congress to reconsider the issue. The next president voted into U.S. office, James Polk, supported annexation and pushed for the joint resolution. The presidents in power in the United States at this time had a great deal of influence over the decision to annex Texas. It also showed that the people of the United States wanted annexation because they voted for Polk who made annexation part of his platform.

Answer:

The movement for woman suffrage started in the early 19th century during the agitation against slavery. ... When Elizabeth Cady Stanton joined the antislavery forces, she and Mott agreed that the rights of women, as well as those of slaves, needed redress.

Immediately after the Civil War, Susan B. Anthony, a strong and outspoken advocate of women's rights, demanded that the Fourteenth Amendment include a guarantee of the vote for women as well as for African-American males. In 1869, Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton founded the National Woman Suffrage Association.
