Hi there! The numbers can be either -15 or 3.

Let the number be represented by X.
(x + 6) {}^{2} = 81

First we work out the parentheses.
{x}^{2} + 12x + 36 = 81

Now subtract 81 from both sides.
{x}^{2} + 12x - 45 = 0

Using the sum of 12 and a product of 45 we get.
(x + 15)(x - 3) = 0

AB = 0 gives A = 0 or B = 0
x + 15 = 0 \: \: or \: \: x - 3 = 0
x = - 15 \: \: or \: \: x = 3

Therefore, the numbers are either -15 or 3.

If two angles are right angles, then they are adjacent?
Vlad [161]

Two angles are supplementary to each other if they are congruent. One angle in a linear pair is a right angle if the other angle is the right angle. When one of the angles is a right angle, the two angles become congruent and neighboring.

For #8 and #9, fill in the missing information for the following trapezoids. SHOW YOUR WORK to solve for the missing value.
garik1379 [7]

Applying the equation for the area of the trapezoid, it is found that the height is of 10 cm.

The <em>area of a trapezoid</em> is <u>half the multiplication of the sum of the bases and the height</u>, that is:

A = \frac{h}{2}(b_1 + b_2)

For this problem, we have that: A = 205, b_1 = 20, b_2 = 21, hence:

A = \frac{h}{2}(b_1 + b_2)

205 = \frac{h}{2}(20 + 21)

20.5h = 205

h = \frac{205}{20.5}

h = 10

The height is of 10 cm.
