Answer:

c. Battle of Britain

Explanation:

After the fall of France, and the domination of a large part of the European countries, it had western continental Europe under its control. Only one country resisted: United Kingdom. The United Kingdom, commanded by Winston Churchill, was the only country in Europe that meant a great threat to the Germans. Moreover, after all its expansion, England was the only country in Europe that resisted Germany. Although initially Hitler did not intend to invade the United Kingdom, the constant help of the United States to England could cause a threat to Germany. Thus, Göring, head of the Luftwaffe, convinced Hitler to use only his air power to conquer the United Kingdom. This is how Hitler tries to dominate that country. During all the remaining months of 1940, the Germans and the English met in an aerial and terrestrial battle known as the Battle of England. The Germans attacked radars and important places of the British to lessen their power. However, the counterattack of the United Kingdom launched to Berlin on civilian targets, made Hitler enraged and ordered to bomb the United Kingdom, especially its capital London.

Between the end of 1940 and the beginning of 1941, London had been ruthlessly bombed, destroying important places, causing panic among the population and a severe blow to the United Kingdom. More than a million homes were devastated and the dead in the English capital were more than 45,000. The cities of Coventry, Liverpool, Plymouth, Bristol and Southampton were also heavily bombed. In spite of the intense battle between Germans and English, and the bombing in London, Hitler realizes that the battle only caused military and civil losses in both sides. Neither of the two nations seemed to win and the casualties were getting bigger and more frequent. Then, on May 16, 1941, Hitler ordered to stop the attack. However, both countries will remain throughout the war as the main enemies.

What political institution began to emerge in Europe after the Carolingian Empire?
nexus9112 [7]
The Carolingian Empire covered much of the Western and Central Europe but it collapsed in less than hundred years after the death of Charlemagne in 814. Several factors led to the fall of the Carolingian Empire. The division of Frankish lands among the male members of the Carolingian dynasty was a major factor. The Carolingians extended their rule over most Western and Central Europe in less than one half of a century and became regarded as the renewers of the Roman Empire after the Imperial coronation of Charlemagne in 800. The Carolingian Empire achieved its greatest territorial extent during the reign of Charlemagne (768-814) who added Lombardy, Saxony, Danubian Plain and Spanish March to the Realm of the Franks. However, Charlemagne’s empire started to decline already under his successor Louis the Pious (814-840) and collapsed by the end of the 9th century.

(APUSH) What compromises made the union, kept the union, and made the union fall apart?
rodikova [14]
he Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed each territory to decide the issue of slavery on the basis of popular sovereignty. Kansas with slavery would violate the Missouri Compromise, which had kept the Union from falling apart for the last thirty-four years. The long-standing compromise would have to be repealed. Opposition was intense, but ultimately the bill passed in May of 1854. Territory north of the sacred 36°30' line was now open to popular sovereignty. The North was outraged. The political effects of Douglas' bill were enormous. Passage of the bill irrevocably split the Whig Party, one of the two major political parties in the country at the time. Every northern Whig had opposed the bill; almost every southern Whig voted for it. With the emotional issue of slavery involved, there was no way a common ground could be found. Most of the southern Whigs soon were swept into the Democratic Party. Northern Whigs reorganized themselves with other non-slavery interests to become the REPUBLICAN PARTY, the party of Abraham Lincoln. This left the Democratic Party as the sole remaining institution that crossed sectional lines. Animosity between the North and South was again on the rise. The North felt that if the Compromise of 1820 was ignored, the Compromise of 1850 could be ignored as well. Violations of the hated Fugitive Slave Law increased. Trouble was indeed back with a vengeance.
