Bhutan is a beautiful region and among its most beautiful characteristics is its rivers. There are four major rivers in Bhutan, as well as a number of lesser streams around the country. The word for river in Bhutanese is : chhu and the largest river is dubbed the Drangme chhu. This river is of considerable importance to the economy and wildlife of Bhutan. It flows through the Royal Manas National Park and is a source for irrigation which is used by farmers throughout its valley and surrounding areas. It is also a source for drinking water in places along its route.
