Klux Klux klan historically started around the 1860s, however, at some point, the popularity waned only to be revived around the 1920s by William J. Simmons who employed Mary Elizabeth Tyler and Edward Young Clarke to promotes the activities of the group.

The duo in turn, however, sent out more than 1,000 solicitors into the streets to recruit members. By 1925, the group had about 5 million members across the country.
