The graph is a function. When drawing a vertical line, there will be two circumstances:

  1. The line intersects only one point on a graph.
  2. The line intersects more than one point on a graph ( POI > 1 )

For the first circumstance, the graph that has only one intersect with a line - it is a function. For the second circumstance, the graph cannot be a function as it gives more than one y-value for a single x-value.

The conclusion is that if a line only has one intersect on a graph then it is a function. Otherwise, not a function but a relation instead. All functions are relations, but not all relations can be functions.

Answer

  • The graph passes the vertical line test and is a function.

Find the product (x+2)(x+3)
Katyanochek1 [597]

Answer:

x^{2}+5x+6.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here you can use the foil method.

1. Multiply x by x to get x^{2}.

2. Multiply x by 3 to get 3x.

3. Multiply 2 by x to get 2x.

4. Multiply 2 by 3 to get 6.

Now, you have to add all those terms to get  x^{2}+3x+2x+6 and you can simplify that to  x^{2}+5x+6.

An airplane 30,000 feet above the ground begins descending at the rate of 2000 feet per minute. Assume the plane continues at th
Aleonysh [2.5K]
If we call y the height of the plane, we know when the time (x) is 0, the height is 30000. So let's write that in:

y = 30000 + (0)

Then, for every increase of a minute (x increases by 1), the height reduces by 2000. This can be written as:

y = 30000 - 2000x

Using what we know about y = mx+c equations, the slope of the line is -2000, and the y-intercept is (0, 30000).
