The effective plan to disenfranchise southern blacks in the 1890s took its name from which state in which it first appeared?

Even though The Mississippi Plan was elaborated in 1875, it wasn't until 1890 when the state of Mississippi adopted a new constitution with which the black people were effectively disenfranchised.

In order to vote, the voters were required to pay a poll tax and pass a subjective literacy test which was applied by white administrators. These barriers weren't the only measures taken, since black people who tried to vote were victims of violence and fraud. This situation continued to happen until the black population stopped trying to exercise their rights.

Other southern states called it "The Mississippi Plan" and they quickly adopted it.

The Mississippi Plan

Mississippi was the first state to enact laws preventing blacks from voting. Through literacy tests and poll taxes, blacks were prevented from voting because of cost and the inability to read. This system eventually evolved to include gerrymandering the districts to exclude blacks and primaries for whites only.

The policy of Mississippi spread to other southern states within twenty years. Each state used their own methods but the goal was all the same: prevent blacks from voting and/or holding government office. These laws continued in the US until the 1960's when the national government outlawed the practices.

1. Define polis, acropolis, agora, hoplite,
phalanx, democracy, oligarchy, helot,
ephor
katen-ka-za [31]

Answer:

Polis was a city state in ancient Greece, it was sort of where philosophy was invented. The literal meaning of the word 'polis' translated to english is 'city'

Acropolis is a structure in ancient greece, typically built on a hill, and heavily fortified.

Agora is an open public space that was usually used for gatherings and markets in ancient greece.

Hoplite is a foot soldier of ancient greece. They bore heavy shields and spears. You've probably seen cartoons and movies with them in it. They had the red feather mohawk on their helmets. They had a very unique fighting style, they'd line up in rows, put their sheild in front of them, and stick the spear upward and out in front, then they'd charge at the enemy. It worked pretty well for them, and it is still used today, not in war, but police use it.

Phalanx is essentially what I explained above about the ancient greek fighting style. The phalanx is the formation the greeks took up in battles, one big mass of heavily armed hoplites.

Democracy was, I believe, invented by the greeks, I forget if that's true, do NOT take my word on that. Anyway, democracy is a system of government where the citizens get to choose their legislation.

Oligarchy is what it's called when a country or an organization have total control of everything. So, for example, if you're stuck on a deserted island with 50 other people, but the 5 oldest have complete control of everything, making them a council of elders, then that would be an oligarchy. The leaders don't have to be old though, I just like councils of elders.

Helot is somone in ancient greece who is a little more than a slave, but no quite deemed a citizen. Helots made up a lot of the population in sparta territories.

And last but not least, and Ephor is a leader of the sparta in the ancient greece cities of heraclea and taras.

Why would higher strikebreakers lead to violence?
ddd [48]

Answer:

What was the purpose of strikebreakers?

Strikebreakers, known pejoratively as scabs, are workers who continue to work during on-going strike action. Strikebreakers may be existing workers, those drafted in to plug the employment gap when other workers are striking, or those who cross picket lines in order to engage in employment.

Explanation:

Why are strikebreakers called scabs?

The term "scab" was first used in the 13th century to mean a nasty, itchy skin disease or the crust that forms on a wound. By 1806, the word "scab" arrived at its current meaning -- a strikebreaker who willingly crosses the picket line [source: Lexicon of Labor, Online Etymology Dictionary].

Explain how the climate zones of Africa affect trade?
Help me asappp!!
Romashka [77]

Explanation:

In Africa the climate is very harsh

To trade sometimes people have to go very far distances and cross many different climate zones

For example in the desert climate zone, temperatures in the day can get very hot. At night the temperatures can drop below zero.

The harsh climate can affect how fast it will take for traders to get from one place to another. The climate can also affect the amount of goods or kinds of goods the traders can bring or purchase.
