A parent is concerned about the school district's gifted education policy. She feels that it is not objective or fair because it
does not rely on an IQ test to determine who makes the cut. Why would a district consider factors other than IQ when determining eligibility for the gifted program?
A student with a higher IQ but a lower work ethic may be more intelligent but will not put forth the same amount of effort to make their work quality work. A student with a higher work ethic may face challenges finding the answers but will work to find the solutions rather than giving up. A student with a higher work ethic would put in more effort to improve the quality of their work, therefore making them more suitable for the gifted program. As such, IQ and work ethic should both be considered.
