What is the main purpose of a dictionary entry?
nadya68 [22]

Dictionary is the primary point of access in a catalog record. A complete bibliographic description, including the primary access point heading, presented in the format in which the item is to be identified and cited.

Some dictionaries will include the acronym on the same line as the term entry. Others will simply put the acronym in parentheses after the term entry. These data categories are not yet found in many dictionaries. Preferred terms are those that are typically found in a style manual.

The style manual will recommend certain terms to be used instead of similar terms. Nonstandard variants have entered the dictionary world as a result of analyzing various corpora (the documents from which you draw terms) and determining that the writers are using different terms with the same definitions. Nonstandard variants are atypical term usages that are added to dictionaries to inform Natural Language Processing engines that personal data and individual information are interchangeable.

Write an essay of at least 200 words that explains the significance of Orwell's choice of a farm as the setting of his story.
Akimi4 [234]

Answer:

When Orwell saw a kid whipping a horse, he had an idea: "It struck me that if only such animals became aware of their strength we should have no power over them, and that men exploit animals in much the same way as the rich exploit the proletariat."

Hello, Animal Farm.

On Orwell's Animal Farm-originally Manor Farm-different animals represent different members of the proletariat (working class) or the Russian communist regime. We won't take you through all the details here (see "Symbols, Imagery, Allegory" and the "Character Analyses" for the full lowdown), but the point is that Orwell picked the setting of the farm because it would work well as an allegory.

At the same time, Orwell includes little details like, "the birds jumped on to their perches, the animals settled down in the straw, and the whole farm was asleep in a moment" (1.20). There's no allegorical purpose to these images; they just give the setting a sense of completeness (although may not exactly realism).

But why an English farm rather than, say, a Russian farm? Well, Orwell wasn't just criticizing Stalin. He was also criticizing the myth of Stalinism that intellectuals all over the West believed. By setting it in England, he brought it that much closer to home

Which sentence contains an error in parallel structure?
Leya [2.2K]

In the sentence that has a parallel structure, the error is given in option (B). The business manager is bright, extremely creative, and generous with her thoughts.

How does parallel structure work?

A stylistic device known as the parallel structure is a grammatical formation made up of two or more clauses, phrases, or words that have the same length and grammatical form.

Parallelism is comparable to it. By maintaining the rhythm of the lines, sentences with a parallel structure consist of a number of phrases or clauses that begin and end almost in the same way.

These structures are repeats that provide the readers with a fun opportunity to take in and comprehend thoughts, facts, and concepts.

Due to the way it exploits word patterns and connects them to one another, parallel structure improves readability and fosters writing fluency.

It gives the appearance of sophisticated language, particularly in literature and advertising. Parallel structures also synchronize, repeat, and stress the writers' words and ideas.
