They also learned to create tools that helped them in their everyday tasks, which also made them more 'civilized', as 'civilized' means to be considered more advanced.

The fertile region helped them do so, because people need to eat, and because of that, they either have to plant food or gather wild-plants. The fertile region is called 'fertile region', because the soil is rich in nutrients, which helped farming. On top of that, the place gets more rainfall than the desert (because they are near a ocean). This resulted in the soil in the area to be much more richer and better.

The fertile crescent is a crescent shaped area that is located from north-east Egypt and present day Israel to the extent of Ancient Babylon's empire (present-day Iraq).
