At first, white settlers saw Native Americans as accommodating and well disposed of. They invited the Natives into their settlements, and the pioneers enthusiastically occupied with an exchange with them. Their refusal to adjust to European culture irritated the homesteaders and threats before long broke out between the two gatherings.
