What does Scout find in one of the trees at the edge of the Radley lot? Several days later, she and Jem find something else in t
mixer [17]

Answer:

Scout found chewing gums in one of the knothole in the tree.

Later, she and Jem found another box which contains two Indian coins.

They decided to wait till school starts and then ask around for the real owner.

Explanation:

Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" deals with the themes of racial discrimination, and also with the loss of innocence and the civil rights issues in Maycomb, Alabama. Through the characterization of the Finches and especially giving the narrative voice to the youngest character, Jean Louis "Scout" Finch, Lee explores the themes of these issues through the lens of a young person, an innocent and naive person.

In Chapter IV, Scout tells us that she had found a secret knothole at the edge of the Radley's property. In this knot-hole, she first found <em>"two pieces of chewing gum minus their outer wrappers......... Wrigley’s Double-Mint".</em> But she was caught by her brother Jem and made to spit it out.

Some days later, she and Jem did find another tin foil wrapper which contained <em>"a small box patch worked with bits of tinfoil  collected from chewing-gum wrappers...... [with] two  scrubbed and polished pennies, one on top of the other"</em>.

They decided to keep it safe and find the owner of the coins, for they are "<em>are important to somebody</em>".

Discuss the negative effects of unemployment.
LUCKY_DIMON [66]

Negative Effects of Unemployment

The negative effects far outweigh the positive effects when it comes to the impact unemployment has on society and the individual as well.

Not Enough Money: This is one of the adverse effects on the individual. Everything in the world costs money. If there is no source of income, you're going to have to settle and go without. If an unemployed individual has a family, it's difficult. Sure, there are unemployment benefits, but they aren't going to pay for extra things to do with your family and travel to new places.

Health Issues: This is another individual negative effect, but an important one. Being unemployed can lead to depression, low self-esteem, anxiety and other mental health issues, especially if an individual truly wants a job but can't find employment. Tension can occur, causing stress and strain on the body.

Economic Issues: During unemployment, there is no income, which leads to poverty. The burden of debt will increase, leading to economic problems. When there is unemployment, the state and the federal governments have to step in and pay unemployment benefits. By needing to pay more of these benefits, the government must borrow money to pay the benefits or reduce spending in other areas.

Social Issues: Many crimes are committed by individuals who are unemployed and living in poverty. When unemployment rates increase, crime rates tend to rise. According to the study in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology in 2016, individuals who are unemployed for socially unacceptable reasons and don't wish to seek out job opportunities are more likely to engage in burglary or robbery.

Is the house where Billy sees the sign 'Bed and Breakfast' enchanted? Does the landlady have magical powers or is it all his ima
expeople1 [14]

Answer:

The house is not enchanted nor does the landlady possess magical powers.

Explanation:

Roald Dahl's short story "The Landlady" revolves around the story of Billy Weaver and his encounter with a strange landlady in whose "Bed and Breakfast" he was staying. The story ends unresolved, leading the readers to imagine for themselves what really happened in the end.

Billy Weaver had arrived at Bath for the first time to start his job. As he doesn't know anyone, he decided to stay in a hotel for the time being. While looking for a reasonable place to stay, he came upon a small sign that says<em> "Bed and Breakfast"</em>. And he was hooked as if some strange spell was pulling him towards the place. Even the landlady seemed to have been expecting him, for she opened the door right after it rang.

There seems to be no indication that the place was enchanted. But at the same time, there are certain elements that seem to suggest to that. the narrator reveals <em>"his eye was caught and held in the most peculiar manner by the small notice that was there. BED AND BREAKFAST."</em> He continues, <em>"Each word was like a large black eye staring at him through the glass, holding him, compelling him, forcing him to stay where he was and not to walk away from that house." </em>But this doesn't prove that the place is enchanted.

Moreover, the landlady doesn't have any magical powers, rather she was a killer.
