Using complete sentences, describe what present-day Canada and the United States looked like just prior to conta between Europea
Leona [35]

Answer:

Canada and the US, prior to the contact between Europeans and Native Americans, were home to numerous civilizations, a huge number of settlements, an agricultural landscape, and a lot of different cultures.

Explanation:

Present-day Canada and the United States, prior to the contact between the Europeans and Native Americans were very different places. The Native Americans were in very large numbers, though much more in the US and less in Canada. There were a lot of thriving civilizations across the continent, and the different groups of people had different lifestyles.

Across North America, there were thousands of settlements, some of which were cities or villages, while some were temporary dwellings. Unlike the common belief, the Native Americans, at least the ones that had a settled lifestyle, were on a relatively similar level of development as the Europeans, and they exploited the continent a lot. The landscape was changing from one place to another because of the type of human activity that was dominant, and what is now the US especially, was much less forested because of agricultural activities than what the Europeans saw after they started to move westward sometime after their initial arrival.

Who developed the cartesian coordinate system? Write a paragraph about it.
SIZIF [17.4K]

Answer:

The Cartesian Coordinate System is used to locate a point in space by giving its relative distance from perpendicular intersecting lines (Encyclopedia.com).  René Descartes was the inventor of the Cartesian coordinate system with the help of Pierre de Fermat.  Descartes used the letters from the beginning of alphabet (constants were identified by a, b, c and so forth) and the letters at the end of the alphabet (x, y, z) were used for variables.  These were expressed on the line as equations.  The system itself; first coordinate value (x-coordinate) describes the horizontal axis (x-axis) and the 2nd coordinate value (y-coordinate) locates the point of the vertical axis (y-axis).  The coordinating system helps duplicate geometric figures (i.e. triangle has coordinates of A (3,2), B (4,5), and C (-2,4) and with these coordinates, you are able to duplicate another.

hope that helps

What would be the advantage of locating stomata on the underside of a leaf be for the plant? (Hint: sunlight and the effect of t
makkiz [27]

Explanation:

1. Stomata are the openings on the leaf for the exchange of the water and air from the plant to the environment. It actually helps plants to breath, so it can also be seen as nostrills of the plants. They are present on either side of the leaves. Opening a stomata is like opening the doors for the exchange of the gases . This comes at a cost.

Due to sunlight and heat from the environment water content of the leaf is also remarkably lost when stomata opens, which is protected otherwise due to outer waxy layer of the leaf. To reduce this, most of the stomata are present on the lower surface of the leaves, as it will reduce the possibility of water loss due to high sunlight during the afternoon.

2. In aquatic plants you can find most of the stomata present on the upper surface of the leaf. As the plants float on the water surface, its lower epidermis is stuck to the water, hence respiration is least likely there as there is no contact of the stomata with the air.
