How do you compute the volume of a partially filled cylinder on its side by knowing the height of the fluid on a vertical diamet

er measuring stick?

Solution :

Since, we can measure the height of fluid. Let it be h.

So height of cylinder is double the height i.e. 2h because cylinder is partially filled.

Also, we can also measure diameter. Let it be d.

Now, we know, radius is haft the length of diameter.

So, r = d/2.

Volume of cylinder is given by :

V =\pi \times radius^2 \times height \\\\V =\pi\times  (\dfrac{d}{2})^2 \times 2h\\\\V = \dfrac{ \pi d^2 h}{2}

Hence, this is the required solution.

Write the equation in the standard linear equation form (Ax+By=C) if possible. Is the equation linear? y/3+x=5
mojhsa [17]

Answer:

3x + y = 15

Step-by-step explanation:

y/3 + x = 5

You can first move the x and y variable around so it fits the standard linear equation format.

x + y/3 = 5

In order to make it look more like the standard format, you can multiply both sides of the equation by 3 to get rid of the 3 in the denominator of the y variable.  It would look like this:

3 ( x +y/3) = 3 ( 5 )

When you multiply this out, you get this:

3x + y = 15

Jackson’s age was 2/5 of the age he will be 20 years from now 7 years ago. How old is Jackson now?
bonufazy [111]
<h3>The present age of Jackson is 25 years old</h3>

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Let the present age of Jackson be "x"

Therefore

Jackson's age 7 years ago = x - 7

And, Jackson's age after 20 years = x + 20

From given question,

Jackson’s age was 2/5 of the age he will be 20 years from now 7 years ago

\frac{2}{5} \times (x + 20) = x - 7\\\\2(x + 20) = 5(x - 7)\\\\2x + 40 = 5x - 35\\\\5x - 2x = 40 +35\\\\3x = 75\\\\Divide\ both\ sides\ by\ 3\\\\x = 25

Thus present age of Jackson is 25 years old
