1) Motivation. They had a reason to fight and the British soldiers didn’t really care that much.
2) They knew the terrain since it was in their own soil- this gave them advantages to know secret paths and such
3) Allies. The French hated the British after their defeat in the French and Indian War, and aided the colonists to take them down
4) Guerilla Warfare- the British stuck to more formal and traditional tactics while the Americans used unorthodox methods.
5) Definition of winning- all the colonists had to do was make the british retreat, and the British had to conquer everything to win. It’s easier to play defense than offense.
