The American Indian's lives were affected by westward expansion during the 1800s, the reason for this occurrance is due to the American Settlers moving west and essentially kicking the American Indian's out of their homes, and off of their land. Another way the American Indian's lives were affected is that after all the lost battles, they were forced to go through assimilation. Assimilation is the process of changing to the "American" culture which all the whites and settlers wanted, and forced the American Indian's to go through this process, changing their lives forever as they had to give up their culture.
