Identity vs. role confusion is the 5th stage of Erik Erikson's theory of psychological development. It begins at 12-18, years of adolescence. During this stage, the adolescence find themselves searching for who they are through their values, goals, and beliefs. They will look into their morales, and continue from there. This leads them into preparing for older life.
