The sentence that should have para instead of por is
the first one, por means by and para means for. If you were to use por in the first sentence than it would translate to this: I will take this road by arrive faster, as you can see makes zero sense. But if you use para in the first sentence it will roughly translate to this: I will take this road for I can arrive faster.
