Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Kentucky were some of the states of the Upper South where slavery became the centre of the sale throughout the South. African people were shipped from Africa and then sold in auction as slaves to work in plantations and domestic work. From the states mentioned above, slaves were imported into other Southern states like Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi,  Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
