In this case, the listener does not make judgments or analyze technical concepts, but is interested in knowing what the speaker is feeling and what he thinks about a certain situation.

This is the most appropriate style to use when a friend is telling you about a problem, as it allows the listener to understand what is going on, how it affects the friend and how he can help him.
