Explanation:

The main characteristics that will determine the wave that will arrive at a seismic station first is the velocity of the wave.

Both S and P - waves are known as body waves as they travel through a body.

P-waves are primary longitudinal waves that uses a series of rarefactions and compressions to propagate parallel to the medium. They have the fastest velocity of all seismic waves. So they arrive at the station first.

S-waves are secondary or shear waves. They are transverses waves. They are the second waves to arrive a seismic station.

Why do large jet airplanes fly in the stratosphere?
ella [17]

Answer:

The main reason airplanes fly in the stratosphere is because this is where the least amount of turbulence is found. In addition, because the stratosphere is very dry, there are fewer clouds in this layer, making for a much smoother ride overall.

What are the two important processes involved in lithification of sedimentary rocks?
goldenfox [79]

Answer:

B. Cementation and compaction

Explanation:

Sediments compact under pressure, then they lose fluids, these fluids cement together and eventually becomes solid rock, this process is known as lithification.

Cementation is when fluids from the loose rocks bind themselves together. If the loosely bound rocks are inorganic, they form and turn to clastic rocks but if it contains organic matter, it is known as bioclastic.

In essence, this destructive phase of sedimentary rock formation is known as cementation and compaction.

Which region in the United States is most likely to have a population of predominantly Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German, and P
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

B. the Midwest

Explanation:

The people that have German, Polish, and Scandinavian origin in the United States, tend to be concentrated the most in the Midwest region of the country. There's a very simple explanation for this. In the period when there was a policy about settling more toward the west, which in that period was the Midwest, as the settlers were concentrated around the East Coast, there were some very lucrative offers. The people that were going to move in in this region were going to get very large pieces of land for farming for free or for very small price. This attracted lot of people, as they were given the chance to be farmers and start their lives all over again. In Europe, the situation was not the best in Poland, Germany, and Scandinavia in this period, and lot of people were migrating in the US. As they came upon this initiative, they accepted the offer gladly, so almost all of them settled in the Midwest. There were so many people from these countries that settled, that the Germans for example are actually the largest ethnic group of which the people claim ancestry in the United States.
