Why is is important to convert rates to the same units before comparing them?
lord [1]
<span>You have to convert rates to the same units before you compare them otherwise you are not comparing like with like. For example, if you compare 3kg with 3000g you may think the second is bigger, but when converted to the same rates they are actually identical.</span>

What is the value of y?
maxonik [38]

Answer:- The value of y=6√3 units.

Explanation:-

Given: Δ TNM is a right triangle, where TN=y , NU=9 units ,UM=3 units, TM=6 units.

Now, we can see that NM=NU+UM

⇒NM=9 units + 3 units=12 units

As Δ TNM is a right triangle , then by Pythagoras theorem

(Hypotenuse)^2=(Perpendicular)^2+(Base)^2\\\Rightarrow12^2=y^2+6^2\\\Rightarrow\ y^2=12^2-6^2\\\Rightarrow\ y^2=144-36=108\\\Rightarrow\ y=\sqrt{108}=6 \sqrt{3}

Thus y=6√3units.

  • Pythagoras theorem states that in a right triangle the square of the longest side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

A rectangular solid has sides of 10 cm, 6.5cm and 8.3 cm. What is the volume and the surface area?
dangina [55]
Part (1):
Volume of the rectangular prism can be calculated as follows:
volume = length * width * height
We are given the three dimensions, therefore, all we need to do is substitute in the above equation as follows:
volume = 10 * 6.5 * 8.3
volume = 539.5 cm³

Part (2):
Surface area of rectangular prism an be calculated as follows:
Surface area = 2(length*width) + 2(width*height) + 2(length*height)
Surface area = 2(10*6.5) + 2(6.5*8.3) + 2(10*8.3)
Surface area = 130 + 107.9 + 166
Surface area = 403.9 cm²

Hope this helps :)
