Answer:

Battle of Somme that was the bloodiest military battle took place in France in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. This battle started on July 1st, 1916, and it involved the British and French Empires against the German Empire. This war has the nickname "The Bloodiest Military Battle" due to the large amount of casualties and lives lost. The British and French had lost approximately 620,000 lives and the Germans lost around 500,000 soldiers totalling almost 1.5 million deaths. Canada's troops joined this battle somewhat late, only joining 3 months prior to its ending on November 18th, 1916. Canada helped in reaching the stale mate at the end of this war. Their contribution aided Britain and France in conquering some territory and further weakened Germany's army. Although many there were many casualties in this battle, Canada was able to confirm their courageous reputation and fight for their country and allies.

Battle of Passchendaele  took place in Ypres, Belgium and started on July 31st, 1917. 217,000 German soldiers were killed, 244,397 British soldiers were killed and all together, there was 275,000 casualties. There were many countries involved in this war, including the British Empire, Australia, Canada, India, New Foundland, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Belgium and Germany. Although the terrain of this battle was very difficult to work in and Canadians only arrived 5 months after the battle began, they fought for Britain and still put in a great deal of effort. The Canadian troops tried their best to help the British but their efforts were not successful. There was over 100,000 Canadian casualties for little gain of land. This battle was so significant it became a symbol of mud, madness and senseless slaughter. After many months of long and hard fighting, the battle ended on November 10 of 1917.

The Battle of Ypres took place in Ypres, Belgium and started on April 22, 1915. This was the first major battle to take place in World War 1. In this battle, Germany used mustard poison gas to suffocate the Allied Powers. This is one of the main reasons this battle was so significant. Canada proved themselves as courageous in this battle. When Germany used the poison gas on our Canadian troops, the Canadians continued to fight, although they were suffocating. Canada was then praised for this persistence and achieved the reputation of being courageous. This showed that Canada had an important role in this battle. Although the Canadians fought hard, many lives were lost, there were 6,500 casualties and 2,000 soldiers died. At the end of the second war of Ypres on May 25th 1915 , the battle ended with a stale mate

What nation was England's greatest rivalry?
Andreyy89

Answer:

A.) France

Explanation:

The 100 Years War, the Seven Years War, the Napoleonic War. Overall, England has a long history of war and rivalry with France.

The core of this lies in 1066, when the Duke of Normandy conquered England. From then on England moved out of the North European world and into the French world. Since England’s King was a prominent French Duke it was inevitable that England and France would play a role in each others history from then on.

And this in a way, I think is a point against France.
