let the wages of men and boys be x and y respectively

then

5x+6y = 114

7x + 8y = 157

multiplying equation first by  4 and second by three and subtracting equations

20x + 24y = 456

<u>21x + 24y =471</u>

-x = -15

x= 15 men wages

substituting value of x in equation

5x + 6y = 114

5*15 + 6y = 114

6y = 114 -75

6y = 39

y = 6.5 each boys wages
