The social contract in the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence is best summarized like this: the government has the power to protect natural rights, but people can change their government if it fails to do so. The Declaration of Independence was designated for some audiences: the colonists, the King, and the world.

 

EXPLANATION:                                                              

It was also intended for multitasking. The aim is to gather forces, win foreign allies, and announce the creation of a new nation. The introductory sentence utters the main intention of the Declaration, to explain the right of the invaders to carry out a revolution. Congress must prove the validity of the cause. It has just challenged the most powerful country on Earth. It needed to persuade foreign allies to join the battle.

• Preamble

These are the lines that are most familiar to contemporary Americans: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.”  

These evocative words were designed to convince Americans to risk their lives for that purpose. Split-up from the mother country threatened their economic stability, security, and identity. The preamble aimed to unite and inspire them through a better life vision.

 

• List of Grievances

The list of 27 grievances against King George III is the evidence of the right to rebel. The Congress cited "the causes that encouraged them to separate" in universal conditions for an international audience. Join our struggle, reads the subtext, and you join the struggle of humanity against tyranny.

 

• Resolution of Independence

The most crucial and dramatic statement occurs near the end: “That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States.” It announces a full break with Britain and its King and demands the powers of an independent nation.
