There are three primary theories of emotion.

They are:

1. Physiological theory of emotion

2. Neurological theory of emotion

3. Cognitive theory of emotion.

Therefore, when someone jumps another person, the emotional reaction based on the psychological theory would be an automatic response of the body which would make the person to get startled.

Based on the neurological theory of emotion, the brain would trigger the response of the body to the sudden jump.

Based on the cognitive theory of emotion, the thoughts and emotions would form the emotional response.
