President Hoover had the army remove the Bonus Army. They were run out of their Shantytown and their homes were burnt down. It was general MacArthur who burned the homes but he was under the orders of the president.

The Bonus Army were men who were protesting not being paid their bonus certificates early. The men were broke and their families needed the money to pay for food and lodging. The Depression had made the men lose all of their money. President Hoover refused to meet with the men, but did send a delegate.
