I would believe it to be 3 and 4.

Explanation:

I don't see why OSHA, the people dealing with work safety, would care about a conversation had along those lines....and citing a conversation as day-job experience just doesn't make sense to me.

Okay. So, because the exponent is an odd number, the answer will be negative and "x" will be a negative number. If you know about cubic units, you can see that -6³ is equivalent to -216. -6 * -6 * -6 is -216. x = -6.
