The king has refused to agree to laws which are necessary for the public good.
2. He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
Judges received their salaries from the King, and the American colonists saw that this led their officers to sympathize with Parliament but not with the colonies.
3. He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
The king had ended colonial legislatures and the colonists were not allowed to govern themselves.
4. For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us.
Colonists were forced to allow soldiers to stay in their homes.
5. For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.
The colonists were taxed without their permission.

6. For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury.
Taking away the right to a trial by jury.
