As this thesis explores, Cinder's identity meanings change in order to accommodate her 'new' identities. At first Cinder believes she is an Earthen cyborg and that Lunars are essentially evil. Approximately halfway through the first novel, Cinder finds out that her lineage is actually Lunar, not Earthen.
