The author’s purpose is to inform the reader what she has learned. She wants to catch the readers attention by starting off with questions.

She wants the readers to be informed about how mysterious are black holes. The authors tone seems exited. Like she wants the reader to be just as

Intrigued or exited as she is.

She might hate the bell because even though the bell itself does not control her, it symbolizes the lack of control she has and how she must follow its orders whenever it rang. The bell was in control of everything, she says, which might mean she has no freedom and she must do whatever comes next when the bell rings.
