We have two different maps, one for the year 1960, while the other for the year 2015, thus a difference of 55 years, so these maps serve for comparison of the urban areas in the world and their development over this time frame.

In 1960, we can see that the number of cities with a population of over 500,000 people is not that big and that they are concentrated in certain areas while lacking in most of the world. In 2015 though, the situation is much different, as all regions in the world have an abundance of cities with a population of over 500,000 people. The main reason why this has happened is that the cities got much more industry, became financial centers, and they have the most opportunities, so the people migrated toward them. This leads us to the conclusion that most areas in the world are facing challenges that are related to urbanization and as the trend continues there will be more and more areas with such challenges.
