Initially (1933–39),they were enemies and the states they led were mutually hostile.

Later (1939–41),their countries signed a Non-Aggression Pact (Aug.23,1939) after which they were allies-dividing eastern Europe between them.Eventually,like most gangsters,they had a falling- out over Romania+Finland in their case.

In the 3d, and final, stage (June 22,1941-April 30,1945) they resumed their previous enmity after Hitler ordered an attack on the Soviet Union on June 22,1941.(Operation Barbarossa).This time the enmity was total and did not stop until one of the parties (Hitler) killed himself-and his country was totally defeated.
