Western North America was inhabited for a millennia by various groups of Native Americans and later served as a frontier to European powers, beginning with Spanish colonization in the 16th century. British, French, and Russian claims followed in the 18th and 19th centuries. After the American Revolution, the newly independent United States began securing its own frontier from the Appalachian Mountains westward for settlement and economic investment by American citizens.
During WW2, the women stayed and worked in the factories, to support the men fighting overseas. They used the assembly line to build ships, planes, and weapons. The men also worked in the factories. Women also rationed and sent food to their husbands overseas. This was the time period where women would work in the industry, or work as a WACs.
If first ladies did not break tradition, they would all be the same. All first ladies have something that they believe in, and they are willing to use their publicity to work for it. Whether this is a charity or focusing on politics, first ladies are breaking tradition everyday. All first ladies have Eleanor to thank for starting off the theme of breaking tradition.
