Select the correct text in the passage.
evablogger [386]

Answer: The line in this excerpt from The Still Alarm by George S. Kaufman that demonstrates the use of understatement is - FIRST FIREMAN (feels the wall): <u>"It's pretty bad right now. "</u>

Explanation:

<em>The Still Alarm </em>is a play, written by George S. Kaufman. In the play, Kaufman uses understatements to mock the British for their calmness, which is present even in quite stressful situations that would normally create panic.

An understatement is the presentation of something as being less important than it actually is. They are often used to create a humorous situation. The fire is strong enough to destroy the wall, but the fireman only states 'it's pretty bad." This is an example of an understatement - instead of describing fire as quite dangerous or horrible, he uses this weak description.

Ostrovityanka [42]

Answer:

Her Decision to Marry for Money

Explanation:

In Pride and Prejudice, Charlotte Lucas plays the role of is Elizabeth Bennet's friend and neighbor. She is 27 years old which is not the ideal marriageable age. When Charlotte feels she is becoming a burden to her family she agrees to marry Mr Collins. She intends to have financial gain. Albeit the importance of love and understanding in marriage are highlighted in the novel, marriage for money is not considered unjust. Charlotte's decision to marry for money affects Elizabeth. Jane Austen means to send a message that women of her time should marry for love as well as for money. Her decision to marry for money in Victorian society makes her an important character.

HELP HELP PLZ In a well-structured paragraph, state the claim of the
MrRa [10]

Answer:I think that most of the claims listed above could be argued well with specific evidence from Thoreau's essay, but I would be a little suspicious of one of the claims and downright skeptical about another one. To me, Thoreau seems disturbed by the emphasis on technological "improvements" in his day, such as the telegraph and railroad, but does he really believe that technology is the "primary cause of distress"? Right now, I really don't know, so I would wait to see how well the writer could support this interpretation before I would make up my mind

Explanation: cause i did it and I got 100% :D
