The North and Midwest drew many African Americans out of the South with promises of industrial jobs and a more racially tolerant environment. That is why hundreds of thousands of African Americans relocated to cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, and New York. Hope this helps :)
