The Japanese were brutal overlords of the Chinese people in conquered Manchuria during the 1930's. Often due to an attitude of superiority and condescension towards the people they defeated, the Japanese are well known during their time in China as being sadomasochists, enjoying the punishment and torture of others, often making a game of it.

Land could be cheaply purchased at the time which led to them gaining more and more acreage. Often, these companies would buy land that was close to railways. This would make the shipping of goods more accessible and contributed to their great profits.
