Answer: When the United States decided to build a canal across Central America, Panama was a part of Colombia.

Explanation: During Theodore Roosevelt's second term, the United States decided that they needed to build a canal across Central America in order for the American ships to travel more quickly. In that time, Panama was a part of Colombia; therefore, the United States had to negotiate with Colombia in order to get permission to build the canal. When the Senate of Colombia denied this permission, the United States sent warships to Panama and convinced people from Panama to rebel against Colombia and fight for their independence. In 1903, Panama declared its independence, which benefited the United States since Panamanians finally allowed the U.S. to build the Panama Canal. The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean and it cuts across the Isthmus of Panama.

When the united states decided to build a canal across Central America, Panama was a part of Colombia.

Further explanation

The United States under President Theodore Roosevelt bought the French asset from the canal zone in 1902. At that time, Panama was a part of Colombia. The Colombian government refused the treaty that the US offered to build the canal.

The Canal project started in 1904, a year after Panama independence from Colombia. Ten years later, on August 15, 1914, this canal officially opened. It was the most expensive project in US history at that point by spending more than $350 million.

During World War II, the Panama Canal played a vital role for the US by allowing ships easily between the Atlantic and Pacific. The Panama Canal has been a vital component for the global trade routes and continues to be updated and maintained.

The Panama canal remained in the United States territory until 1977. A process of transferring territorial control from the US to Panama was completed on 31 December 1999.

Why did jefferson abolish all internal taxes
Kobotan [32]
President Jefferson believed in limiting the powers of the federal government and in order to do so he abolished all internal taxes instead, he was able to run the government solely on the money generated by means of the trade tariff revenue. Generating revenue by means of taxes was considered a great governmental power, something that had spurred the American revolution, and President Jefferson sought to limit that power. These policies also allowed President Jefferson to reduce the overall government spending and in turn debt of the United States, while also eliminating much of the tax burden placed on its inhabitants.
