Encaustic painting, or encaustic, is a pictorial technique in which a molten mixture of wax and resin is applied to a rigid support. It does not smell, takes a few minutes to dry, and completely hardens in a few weeks.
This wax mixture, called a medium, has optical and chemical properties similar to those of varnishes, giving exceptional brightness and color saturation.
