Answer:

  -192

Step-by-step explanation:

Put the number where x is and do the arithmetic.

  -3x^2=-3(-8)^2=-3(64)=\boxed{-192}

Find an n^th degree polynomial with real coefficients satisfying the given conditions. n = 3; -2 and 2 i are zeros; f(-1) = 15.
Ira Lisetskai [31]
So, n = 3, is a 3rd degree polynomial, roots are -2 and 2i

well 2i is a complex root, or imaginary, and complex root never come all by their lonesome, their sister is always with them, the conjugate, so if 0+2i is there, 0-2i is there too

so, the roots are -2, 2i, -2i

now... \bf \begin{cases}
x=-2\implies x+2=0\implies &(x+2)=0\\
x=2i\implies x-2i=0\implies &(x-2i)=0\\
x=-2i\implies x+2i=0\implies &(x+2i)=0
\end{cases}
\\\\\\
(x+2)\underline{(x-2i)(x+2i)}=0\\\\
-----------------------------\\\\
\textit{difference of squares}
\\ \quad \\
(a-b)(a+b) = a^2-b^2\qquad \qquad
a^2-b^2 = (a-b)(a+b)\\\\
-----------------------------\\\\
(x+2)[x^2-(2i)^2]=0\implies (x+2)[x^2-(2^2i^2)]=0
\\\\\\
(x+2)[x^2-(4\cdot -1)]=0\implies (x+2)(x^2+4)=0
\\\\\\
x^3+2x^2+4x+8=0

now, if we check f(-1), we end up with 5, not 15
hmmm

so, how to turn our 5 to 15? well, 3*5, thus

\bf 3(x^3+2x^2+4x+8)=f(x)\implies 3(5)=f(-1)\implies 15=f(-1)

usually, when we get the roots, or zeros, if any common factor that is a constant is about, they get in a division with 0 and get tossed, and aren't part of the roots, thus, we can simply add one, in this case, the common factor of 3, to make the 5 turn to 15

suppose 25 out of 175 people said they like to play disc golf and out 5 out of every twelve of the players have a personalized b
Serhud [2]
We have \frac{5}{12} of 252 people who have a personalized black disc

Number of people who would have personalized flying disc = \frac{5}{12}*252= \frac{2*252}{12}=105 people

Then we work out the number of people who like to play disc golf:
\frac{25}{175}*105= \frac{25*105}{175}=15 people

So we have 15 people who like to play disc golf and have personalised black disc.

<h3>How to solve algebraic problems by appying absolute value properties</h3>

In this question we have eight expressions involving <em>absolute value</em> expressions, which can be solved by using the following procedure:

3.1 a) |(1 / 2) · x| = 3 - 2 · x

For x ≥ 0:

(1 / 2) · x = 3 - 2 · x

(5 / 2) · x = 3

x = 6 / 5

For x < 0:

- (1 / 2) · x = 3 - 2 · x

(3 / 2) · x = 3

x = 2

b) |x - 1| = 3 · x + 2

For x ≥ 1:

x - 1 = 3 · x + 2

2 · x = - 3

x = - 3 / 2

For x < 1:

- x + 1 = 3 · x + 2

4 · x = - 1

x = - 1 / 4

c) |5 · x| = x - 12

For x ≥ 0:

5 · x = x - 12

4 · x = - 12

x = - 3

For x < 0:

- 5 · x = x - 12

6 · x = 12

x = 2

d) |7 - x| = 5 · x + 1

For x ≤ 7:

7 - x = 5 · x + 1

6 · x = 6

x = 1

For x > 7:

x - 7 = 5 · x + 1

4 · x = - 8

x = - 2

3.2 a) |9 + x| = 2 · x

For x ≥ - 9:

9 + x = 2 · x

x = 9

For x < 9:

- 9 - x = 2 · x

3 · x = - 9

x = - 3

b) |5 · x| - 3 · x = 2

For x ≥ 0:

|5 · x| = 2 + 3 · x

5 · x = 2 + 3 · x

2 · x = 2

x = 1

For x < 0:

- 5 · x = 2 + 3 · x

- 8 · x = 2

x = - 1 / 4

c) |x + 6| - 9 = 2 · x

For x ≥ - 6:

x + 6 - 9 = 2 · x

x - 3 = 2 · x

x = - 3

For x < - 6:

- x - 6 - 9 = 2  · x

- x - 15 = 2 · x

3 · x = - 15

x = - 5

d) |2 · x - 3| + x = 21

For x ≥ 3 / 2:

2 · x - 3 + x = 21

3 · x = 24

x = 8

For x < 3 / 2:

- 2 · x + 3 + x = 21

- x = 18

x = - 18

Please help me answer this question????
Alchen [17]

Elimination method means you're essentially. "subtracting" one equation from another.

x-y=17

- x+y=-1

---------

-2y=18

Now we'll solve x+y=-1 and -2y=18 separately.

-2y=18

Divide both sides by -2.

y=-9

x-9=-1

Add 9 to both sides.

x=8

The solutions are x=8 and y=-9, or (8,-9).
