A pollen that lands on the stigma germinates and its pollen tube grows through the style of the stigma down to the ovule where one of the sperm cells of the pollen fertilizes the egg cell of the ovule to form a diploid zygote and the other sperm cell fuses with the polar nuclei of the ovary to form a triploid cell that eventually becomes the endosperm.
