Growing up my parents were mainly at work and my sister was 5 years older than me. I spent many days after school, completing my homework alone and having to find ways to entertain myself. Now, when I look back on those times I realize these circumstances made me more independent. I never really ask for help and I always figure out things on my own. Because of that many people in my family don't think they have to "care" for me because they know I'll be okay. What they don't see is this independence is a product of circumstance.
