He wanted the Northwest Territory for growth of the new nation, so he sent in military to defeat Native American tribes at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The Treaty of Greenville was signed by twleve Native American tribes to surrender their land to the government. Washington also crushed the Whiskey Rebellion through military force in 1794.
